KSP 0.14 Released and Full Of New Features

The first update for the purchase only Kerbal Space Program is here after 9 (long!) weeks of waiting but it was certainly worth the wait.

This release of KSP is filled with some new fantastic features including support for multiple simultaneous flights, multiple crew members and live-switching between flights. Here is the full list:-

  • Flights are regularly saved to file, to be resumed later. (yes, persistence )
  • Support for multiple simultaneous flights and switching from ship to ship.
  • The Tracking Station Facility at the Space Center, allows you to select and resume a flight in progress.
  • Holding the middle mouse button will allow you to rotate the flight camera about itself, instead of rotating its pivot. (double-clicking the MMB will recenter it)
  • Tweaked the orbit rendering on the Map View to reduce clutter when several icons are moused over at the same time.
  • Landed or Splashed vessels now display their coordinates (or location, if available) when moused over on the Map View.
  • More Crew Members so you can launch missions while others are underway.
  • A Stats Tracking System, so we can collect information of the game for statistical purposes.(Demo)
  • An External Module Loader, which enables mod makers to program their own part modules.
  • An integrated game update system, so you don’t have to redownload each time there is a new update.
  • A small liquid fuel tank, a small liquid fuel engine, and a new Landing Leg part type.

Soon we’ll be releasing a video showing all of the new 0.14 features in action so be sure to check back!

Project Gemini Spacecraft

Kerbal Space Program Gemini Mod

Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there are some faces that only a mother could love but when it comes to the latest HSTW release, Project Gemini, nobody in their right mind could argue that the it isn’t anything but a thing of beauty.

Based on a 1960′s USA Project Gemini this latest KSP mod looks the part. This mod is packed full features and is capable of getting to the Mun and back without any additional parts.

  • A parachute slightly stronger than a standard one which ensures a safe landing even in the mountains area
  • Command pod itself
  • A special decoupler
  • An ASAS module
  • Small liquid fuel tank with enough fuel to land on the Mun, take-off and get back home
  • Small and sturdy liquid fuel engine (survives a Mun landing at 3-4 m/s vertical speed)
  • An optional compact 1.75m decoupler to attach NovaPunch 1.75-meter parts to a spacecraft

Closed Comp 7 – ‘Land’ Speed Record Attempt

This competition is now closed.

The competition was extremely competitive but Silvers’s entry of 519 m/s just beat Ritzet’s entry of 513 m/s. Congratulations.

You can view Silver’s Snowflake of Doom entry HERE

Jeb has grown a little tired of space lately and has decided to spend a little more time on his home planet, but he’s bored so he has decided to set a new speed record.

The Kerbanauts have set the rules for the attempt. Jeb is only allowed to use the C7 aviation pack and standard parts. His flight must also stay under 1500m, otherwise it doesn’t count.

How To Enter

1. You need to take a screenshot and/or video of your flight. The screenshot needs to show your highest speed achieved and highest altitude and unless your spacecraft is top secret feel free to share your design.

2. Use a picture hosting service to upload your photo such as Flickr or Photobucket or if you record a video of your attempt, use a video hosting service such as Youtube to upload your video.

3. Post your picture, or a link to your picture/video in the comments section below. For pictures you can use the tags <@img src="PICTURE URL HERE" /> – just removed that @ symbol first

4. Redesign and go back to step 1.

Rules

Standard parts and the C7 mods Available Here are permitted for use.

Please note that the experimental parts of the C7 package (a separate download) are not permitted for use in this competition

You can not go above 1500m.

Competition closes 31st January so you have plenty of time to perfect your spacecrafts and flights.

Get building and good luck!!

1st Day of Kerbal

“On the first day of Kerbal my Kerbanauts gave to me – a KSP Orbit Mechanic program.”

Kerbal Space Program Orbit Mechanic

The KSP Orbit Mechanic is a program which provides a robust minimum-fuel transfer analysis for Hohmann, Bi-elliptic, and inclined transfer schemes. This basically means that you select an orbital scheme then enter your know information, such as altitude, speed etc.

This means you can calculate more accurately how much fuel you will need for your journey into space.

0.13 Released – End Of an Era

The latest update to Kerbal Space Program marks the end of free updates but that doesn’t mean that the developers have left the important fixes and additions out.

The main fixes in the 0.13 update are for performance enhancements and for fixing a few long-standing bugs that have been around.

Here are just a few of the tweaks to Kerbal Space Program.

Optimisations

  • Ship parts now have adjustable levels of physics, so small parts are not as deeply simulated as large ones. This reduces the amount of physics objects and joints to simulate.
  • Removed a lot of needless halts on the part processing routine during loading.

Fixes

  • Fixed the mission timer not getting started if the first stage was moved before launching.
  • Increased the heat conductivity and heat dissipation values for all parts, to compensate for the new heat exchange system.

New Additions

  • Pressing F2 will hide the UI completely (so you can take UI-free screenshots).
  • The part loader will check if the saved optimized meshes are out-of-date, and update them when necessary.
  • Added a progress bar for the loading screen.

As mentioned above this is the last free update to Kerbal Space Program but not the end of development. You can continue to receive update and help out the developers by pre-ordering the game from the Kerbal Space Program Store
